Pre-cruise Provence Tour

Rhone River Cruise (by accommodation category)

Categories A and B are listed at 170 square feet and have large windows that can be opened. Category C and D cabins are the same size and configuration, but the window does not open. Categories A-C are configured identically. Categories A and B are on the two upper decks and have windows that open. Categories C-D are a little lower, have picture windows. These windows do not open. Category E cabins are on the lower deck, are smaller at 120 square feet and have ½ sized windows that do not open.

Air Transportation

Air schedules and fares are only published 330 days from date of travel. I anticipate fares in the $1450-$1650 range, inclusive of taxes and surcharges. I am able to guarantee that airfare and transfers will not be more than $1650 per person, and may indeed be less. My air program will include ground transportation from Marseille to Saint Remy and from Chalon (cruise terminus) to Paris. You are welcome to book your own airfare if you choose and either join us in Saint Remy or aboard the Viking Europe in Avignon

Guests will depart from the US on Wednesday, July 11th, arriving in France on the 12th. Return flights will be from Paris on Wednesday, July 25th for those parties extending after the cruise. If you plan to arrange your own air flights, I will have more specific guidelines related to arrival and departure times soon.

If you are not extending after the cruise, I still suggest traveling to Paris to fly home. The cruise line suggests flights from Lyon, which is a two hour motor coach ride from the cruise terminus. Flight options will be better, and probably less expensive from Paris. Keep in mind that my air transportation costs will include transportation from Marseille to Saint Remy

My guaranteed price for airfare from Seattle to Marseille, return from Paris is $1680, which includes transportation from Marseille Airport to the hotel in Saint Remy, post-cruise transportation from the boat to Paris via motor coach to Dijon, high speed rail to Paris. If you use mileage or purchase your own airfare, you may purchase the ground transportation as shown here:

• Marseille to Saint Remy $45
• Chalon to Dijon/Paris $110

If you are making your own arrangements, you should fly into Marseille. This is the closest international airport with service from the US. Delta (via Amsterdam) and Air France (via Paris) will get you there at just about noon, which is a perfect time. Both of these carriers also provide service back to the US from Paris.

Deposits for this tour will be split between Northwest Travel Service and Viking River Cruises. The cruise line accepts all major credit cards for their portion of the tour. Northwest Travel Service is able to accept Visa or Mastercard for the land portions of the tour. If you choose to pay by check, there is a discount available to you.

Deposit to confirm your reservation is $800 per person for the land portion of the tour. Your deposit will be split between NW Travel and Viking River Cruises. More detail will be provided with your confirmation.

I am able to accept Visa or Mastercard. There will be a discount for check payment. If do not incur credit card fees, I pass these on to you.

Airfare deposits will be additional and these will be confirmed around the end of August. Deposits for air transportation will be $300 per person.

The balance for the entire tour will be April 3rd, 2012. If you pay by check for the land/cruise portion of the tour, you should arrange to have it arrive at my office on or before that date. Credit cards will be processed on or after the 3rd.

This tour is similar in many respects to a charter that we operated over Fourth of July week in 2005. It was an outstanding cruise, with great friends and marvelous wine. I have been anxious to get back and see some more of the countryside of southern France and spend additional time on the river.
