Paris post cruise program (3 nights)

July 22nd to July 25th, 2012

PhotoWe disembark the boat in the town of Chalon-sur-Saone. We’ll be traveling to Paris by high speed train. Our motor coach will pick us up mid-morning from the pier to drive us about an hour to Dijon where we will catch TGV to Paris. The train travels of speeds as high as 300 kph, making the trip to Paris in about 90 minutes. The drive by motor coach would take five hours or more and I'm sure we all want to limit travel time.

Upon arrival at the Gare de Lyon rail station, we will transfer to our Paris hotel on the Left Bank. Your Paris stay will include an orientation city tour, museum pass, and transportation pass on the Paris Metro. This evening will be free to explore a little on your own. A Paris Metro primer will be provided for anyone not familiar with the subway system, probably the most efficient and practical transit system in the world.

Post cruise stay in Paris includes:

  • Transfer from rail station to hotel with an orientation sightseeing coach tour
  • Three night accommodations in Paris with tax
  • Continental breakfast each morning
  • Seine River Illumination cruise with dinner
  • Three-day transportation pass on le Metro
  • 2 day Museum Pass
  • Airport transfers

We have an orientation coach tour and an evening dinner cruise on the Seine planned for group events. Outside of these events, you are free to explore the sights on your own. Here is a short list of suggested diversions.

Rodin MuseumSculpture and a great garden
The LouvreAn entire day may not be enough time
D’Orsay MuseumIn a former train terminal, an Impressionist’s Mecca.
Paris Sewer MuseumSounds like a joke, but it’s a fascinating tour.
Notre Dame CathedralThe view from the towers is exceptional.
Saint ChapelleNear Notre Dame Cathedral, this gothic chapel is a must-see.
Picasso Museum Housed in a 17th century hotel, well worth a visit
The PantheonVictor Hugo, Emile Zola, and a host of others, rest here.
Arc de TriompheA view of the city with fewer lines than the Eifel

Park yourself at a corner Café There’s a lot to be said for doing nothing. Find a café, order a coffee or something stronger, and let Paris surround you.

Getting around Paris

Most of what you would want to see in the city is located in the arrondisements 1-8, the very center of Paris. You have a three day Metro card that is included in our stay there. The Metro is a safe, convenient, speedy, and efficient method of getting anywhere you like in the capital. We’ll give some hands-on lessons when we arrive to help you become more familiar with the system.
